The ambient gyrus, or gyrus ambiens, refers to a part of the parahippocampal gyrus located rostrally. Some referecences consider it as part of the gyrus found underlying the uncus. Other references consider it as a synonym for limen insula. This structure faces the ambient cistern. The ambient gyrus first enters the ambient cistern during uncal herniation.
