Muscle tissue

The muscle tissue contracts in order to produce movement of the body parts. There are three types: skeletal, smooth and cardiac muscle tissue. More.
  1. Skeletal muscle tissue
    This type of tissue is found in the skeletal muscles and is responsible for the voluntary movements of the bones.
  2. Smooth muscle
    The smooth muscle tissue forms part of the wall of blood vessels and hollow internal organs, such as the stomach, intestine etc.
  3. Cardiac muscle
    The cardiac muscle tissue is found in the myocardium and is responsible for the contraction of the heart.
