No! it’s mine! Ladies, ladies! Goodness grief! Fighting over cornflakes? Haven’t you heard cornflakes are the secret to youthful skin? Ah, no I didn't, but I do know that they’re key to memorizing the epidermal layers.
In this image, you can see the three layers of the skin with the epidermis being the outermost layer of them all. The epidermis has five layers. On the bottom here, we have the stratum basale. The next layer moving deep to superficial is the stratum spinosum. Then we have the stratum granulosum, and then we have the stratum lucidum. Finally, most superficially, we have the stratum corneum.
You can remember the layers of the epidermis from deep to superficial by memorizing the following mnemonic: British & Spanish Grannies Love Cornflakes. B stands for British and stratum basale while S stands for Spanish and stratum spinosum. G stands for our amazing anatomically-minded grannies and stratum granulosum. L stands for love and stratum lucidum. And, of course, finally, C stands for cornflakes as well as stratum corneum – the most superficial of the layers of the epidermis.
And that's the mnemonic for the layers of the epidermis – British & Spanish Grannies Love Cornflakes.
Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to go get me some breakfast that will make my skin look younger. Mmm.
